Antonio Lopez Saenz Prize for Painting
The award that pays tribute to the Mazatlecan painter Antonio Lopez Saenz now enters its 10th year of existence, attracting both top quality judges as well as contestants from the state of Sinaloa. In this aspect, the artist for whom the prize is named notes that “every year we invite well-respected judges, people who have prestige in the Mexican art world. This has enhanced the quality of the young painters who have won prizes. Truly, these exhibitions show a splendid level of work being produced by youthful artists.” 
The honor was created in 1996 by the Commission of Promotion and Development of Tourism in Mazatlan, CODETUR for short, with the express purpose of stimulating the creative production of Sinaloa’s plastic artists. The work of Antonio Lopez Saenz also is the theme of Carnaval Mazatlan 2005.
